Penn State New Kensington will hold a series of special admissions events Nov. 7-11 as part of Veterans Week at the campus. The week will be highlighted by the administration of justice (AOJ) program open house on Nov. 9 and the Financial Aid 101 workshop on Nov. 10.

Local produce is often marketed as “fresh from the farm.” Penn State New Kensington sophomore agricultural sciences student Hannah Albright wants produce rebranded as “fresh from down the street.”
Penn State New Kensington awarded more than $850,000 in scholarships to campus students for the fall semester. Approximately 55 percent of the student population received an average award of $2,000.
The availability of more than $60,000 in new grants for projects that complement the campus’ strategic plan was the cornerstone of Penn State New Kensington Chancellor Kevin Snider’s “State of the Campus” address Aug. 18. The chancellor annually gives updates to faculty and staff prior to the start of the fall semester.
Michael Cavazza took on Penn State in March. Then he took on North America in April. Now he takes on the world in September. Cavazza, a former student at Penn State New Kensington, will compete in a student research paper competition against 14 international regional winners at the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) conference in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Like the United States’ women sweeping three medals in 100-meter hurdles at the Rio Olympic games, Penn State New Kensington’s engineering technology students swept three scholarships at the Penn State New Kensington Alumni Society academic competition. With the alumni society’s world-record total of $6,000 in scholarships at stake, Nathan Piluso, of Kittanning; Jack DelloStritto, of Monroeville; and Justin Dumm, of Penn Hills, tied for the gold medal, and each earned $2,000 awards. The scholarship total eclipsed the $5,500 given to campus students a year ago.
As a vital part of Penn State’s 20 Commonwealth campuses located across Pennsylvania, Penn State New Kensington not only educates more than 700 students annually, it also drives substantial community impact as an employer. With more than 160 full-time and part-time employees, the New Kensington campus is an asset to the economic health and development of the Alle-Kiski Valley and Pittsburgh region.
Chancellor Kevin Snider conferred degrees to 79 graduates on May 7 at the 57th spring commencement exercises at Penn State New Kensington. James R. Shorkey Jr., a life success coach and founder of Jim Shorkey Family Auto Group, delivered the commencement address, “Blueprint for Success.”
Danielle Richardson was named the 2016 recipient of the Eric A. and Josephine S. Walker Award April 29 at the Academic and Student Achievement Awards ceremony at Penn State New Kensington. The Walker Award is given to the student whose outstanding qualities of character, scholarship and leadership contribute to the prestige of the campus. The award was established in 1980 by Penn State President Eric Walker and is presented at each of Penn State's 24 campuses.
