Penn State has announced the recipients of the inaugural Presidential Public Impact Research Awards, a new program designed to support faculty and students who are working on research projects that directly benefit communities.
Researchers at the Penn State Institute for Computational and Data Sciences, together with collaborators at other institutions within Pennsylvania, have been awarded approximately $1.1 million in funding under the U.S. National Science Foundation Campus Cyberinfrastructure program to develop a commonwealth-wide secure network and related cyberinfrastructure to interconnect Pennsylvania colleges and universities.
Penn State researchers seeking to understand the reasons behind people’s attitudes towards wildlife and their decisions to support saving endangered species were recently awarded a Commonwealth Campuses Research Collaboration Development Program Award to address lack of research in this area, by developing an interactive game.
A series of seed grants from the Office of the Vice President for Commonwealth Campuses has provided Penn State campus leaders with the support to implement transformative initiatives and best practices that have been successful at other University campuses.
Led by Penn State, academia, national laboratories and industry have formed the Post-Industrial Midwest and Appalachia (PIMA) Nuclear Alliance to harness carbon-free energy while educating and training the future energy workforce. The alliance will host a workshop to continue establishing their team, conceptualizing their goals and developing their project plans at Penn State New Kensington’s Digital Foundry on Dec. 8-9.
The Digital Foundry at New Kensington, a collaborative initiative of Penn State New Kensington and the Economic Growth Connection of Westmoreland County, is slated to open in spring 2022 and has been named one of seven Smart Manufacturing Innovation Centers through the Department of Energy.
Seven Penn State faculty and staff were chosen to work with the Student Engagement Network on funded projects that research or contribute to student engagement.
